Forum Coming

As mentioned before, we're glad that people are using the blog, but we know it's not the best format. We're zeroing in on an option that will provide a forum format. That will allow everyone to start discussions, not just to respond to discussions that are already here.

What happened for/to/in you at the retreat?

While we have been talking about what's next for Ascension as a corporate group in the first few threads, perhaps we could pause a moment to invite people to share what happened in their lives while at the retreat. A time away like the Laurelville weekend often produces new or different things in our lives. For a number of reasons, God seems to work powerfully when the church family gathers there.

So, what happened:
between you and God?
between you and a friend - new or old?
within your family?
in a group of people that you are a part of?

Forum and Format

In response to Sarah's comment about whether a blog is the correct format, I think it's pretty clear already that it's not. A blog is good for one content producer with some people who might comment. A forum is really what our community is wanting.

My best idea is npogroups - www.npogroups.com - which has two levels of forum and groupware hosting. Anyone else have a better idea?

In the meantime, please keep posting thoughts and comments here.

This is just a little thing, but for those who read the blog on Sunday and had to create a blogger account to post a comment, thank you for persisting. For those who did not want to create an account, I have changed the setting to allow people to comment as "guests".

Seed Bombers for Christ

What is a seed bomber? Particularly a seed bomber for Christ? We at Ascension are inspired to share Christ’s healing with a broken world, and we have seeds to sow.

Seed bombing is used in urban gardening, specifically guerilla urban gardening - that is, on a lot where someone erects a tall fence to keep gardeners out. In order to get seeds onto such lots, urban gardeners embed seeds in a clod of soil or enclose them with water and soil in an explodable container and lob them over the fence to sow the seed. We want to be seed bombers for Christ - spreading seed on potentially inhospitable soil and trusting that God will provide the sun and water to nourish what we may not even harvest ourselves. The fence we're throwing the seeds over is the perimeter of our church, planting in our neighborhoods, our city and our world.

This blog is a collecting point for seed bomb ideas from people in our church. Post a comment with an idea, and we'll turn it into a blog post to recruit others to go on a bombing run with you.
